Every organization in development sector has a mandate and a need to connect to and collaborate with its constituencies and outside partners. Invariably such collaboration involves groups of people inside the organization connecting with larger, geographically dispersed groups outside of the organization, in an ad-hoc manner. We will present a new collaboration niche named 'Collaboration on the Edge of Network'.
The premise of collaboration on the edge of network is the commonality of a limited number of clearly defined collaboration scenarios. Strong focus must be put on removing the technology out of the loop as much as possible, starting from users' world view -- for example using e-mail for most of the communication. Unlike most IT approaches of today that manage complexity by reducing choice, this niche focuses on removing complexity all together and offering infinite choice through simplicity.
As a proof of concept, we have developed an electronic collaboration and networking platform called Exchange, Communicate, Share. The platform has proven to be extremely popular, primarily due to adherence to several core principles: maximum simplicity and feeling of ownership by its users. This presentation talks about the niche and showcases its application through the ECS platform.
